Geography Bee 

Congratulations to 8th grader, Mina Abbassi! Mina has been notified by the National Geographic Society that she is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2017 California National Geographic State Bee. The contest will be held in Sacramento on Friday, March 31, 2017. This is the second level of the National Geographic Bee competition, which is now in its 29 th year. School Bees were held in schools with fourth- through eighth-grade students throughout

the state to determine each school champion. School champions then took a qualifying test,which they submitted to the National Geographic Society. The National Geographic Society has invited up to 100 of the top-scoring students in each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense Dependents Schools and U.S. territories to compete in the State Bees.

Each state champion will receive $100, the National Geographic Concise Atlas of the World, 4th Edition and a trip to Washington, D.C., to represent their state in the National Geographic Bee Championship to be held at National Geographic Society headquarters, May 14-17, 2017. The national champion will receive a $50,000 college scholarship, a lifetime membership in the Society, including a subscription to National Geographic magazine, and an all expenses paid Lindblad expedition to the Galápagos Islands aboard the new National Geographic Endeavour ll.

Science Fair

History Day

REGIONAL SPELLING BEE

The Regional Spelling Bee was held today at Fieldbrook School.  Big congratulations are in order for John Gerving and Ashley McLaughlin!  JCS sixth grader John Gerving took took first place!  Fifth grade, Ashley Mclaughlin took third.  Excellent work to our super spellers!

 

MATH COUNTS

The Humboldt County Math Counts competition was held yesterday at Sunnybrae middle school.  Eighth Graders Vivian Gerstein, Maddie Lankarani, Marisa Mendosa, Kayla Jay, Ella Day, Austin Costello-Anderson, and MIna Abbassi and Seventh Graders Sydney Trieu, Drew Vizenor, Stanley Guo, and Owen Miranda-Hupp represented Jacoby Creek School at the competition.

The final team results have not yet been released, but the results that have come in show that our team did very will be moving on to compete at the next level.  Eighth grade students Marisa Mendosa and Ella Day both took top honors at the competition.  Ella was the winner of the Countdown Round and Marisa won the Individual Competition.

ALL COUNTY MUSIC FESTIVAL

Congratulations to the following outstanding music students who will be participating in the All County Music Festival at Arcata High School, March 17 & 18. The performance will be 7 pm in the AHS Gym, on Saturday the 18th.
