September 2017 Panther Press
Dear Jacoby Creek Families,
We have had a wonderful start to the 2017-2018 school year. It has been a pleasure to see returning students and to meet students new to our school.
The Panther Press will be delivered to families monthly via email. It will also be available on our website. Please let the office know if you would prefer to receive a hard copy of the Panther Press. The goal of the newsletter is to keep JCS families informed about all of the monthly activities here at school. Please be sure to let me know if you would like to see any information added to this newsletter.
Thank you for all that you do to help make Jacoby Creek School a great place to grow and learn! I am looking forward to a productive and fun school year.
Sincerely,
Melanie Nannizzi
Communication with the School
Important: The voicemail connected to the (707) 822-4896 phone number does not function properly. Once in a great while, it will allow a caller to leave a message, but it is very inconsistent. The staff at Jacoby Creek does not check the voicemail connected to the (707) 822-4896 phone number.
If you would like to leave a voicemail, please use the (707) 633-9090 phone number. Please take a moment to program this number into your phone. These messages are checked frequently all day. Please use this number to leave attendance and non-urgent messages. The office does not open until 8:00 a.m., so if you need to leave a message prior to 8:00 a.m. you should do so on the (707) 633-9090 number.
The email system is another way that the school communicates with families. Please make sure that your email information is up to date with the school office and with your child’s teacher.
Our school website jcsk8.org is also a great place to find information about our school. The Panther Press, the school calendar, lunch menu, and all important forms are available.
Thank you for helping us stay organized so that we have as much time as possible to be available for our students!
Back to School Nights
Attending your child’s Back to School Night is a very important component in setting them up to have a successful school year. Please be sure to mark your calendars with these important dates. I look forward to seeing you there!!
First-Sixth Grade Back to School Night will be held on Thursday, September 7th. Below is the schedule for the evening..
- 1st-3rd – 6:00-6:45
- All Grade Levels 6:50-7:10 in the gym
- 4th– 6th- 7:15-8:00
Seventh and Eighth Grade Back to School Night will be held on September 14 at 6:30 in the library.
Coffee With the Principal
This year Coffee with the Principal will take place on the first Monday morning of each month from 8:00-9:00ish in the library. Coffee with the Principal is an open and casual time for parents and community members to come talk with me about Jacoby Creek School. I look forward to many opportunities to hear the JCS community’s perspective on our school. The first Coffee with the Principal will be on October 2.
Emergency Supplies
Each year students are asked to bring a ziplock bag filled with three bottles of water and three non-perishable food items in case we were to encounter an emergency at school and needed supplies. This year the Athletics Committee will be selling the emergency bags as a fund raiser. An order form was sent home in your child’s folder, but please contact our Athletic Director, Davita McGoldrick, if you need a new copy of the order form. dmcgoldrick@jcsk8.org
After School Enrichment and Academic Support Classes
Academic Support Classes: Homework Club for second and third grade students and Study Hall for fourth through eighth grade students will begin the week of September 11. Registration forms for will be sent out next week and will be available on the website.
After School Enrichment Classes (ASE) will begin the week of October 2. Registration forms for ASE classes will be sent out in mid September. These classes fill up quickly, so remember to turn in your registration form as soon as possible.
Dress Code
For the safety and comfort of our students, Jacoby Creek School has a consistent dress code for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Clothing should not be distracting or impair freedom of movement. Students should wear clothing that is warm and suitable for physical activity. T-shirts which could be interpreted as obscene, vulgar, or in bad taste are not to be worn at school. Undergarments should not be visible. Spaghetti strapped shirts are considered to be undergarments.
Please remember to to write your student’s name in their clothing. Our lost and found is a bit out of control, and it would be wonderful to return clothing to owners!
2017 Panther Pentathlon -October 6
Our goal this year is to raise $55,000 to support the following amazing programs at Jacoby Creek School:
MUSIC, DRAMA, ATHLETICS, SPANISH, and TECHNOLOGY
The money raised by the Panther Pentathlon funds programs that make a JCS a wonderful place to learn! Primary grade music, concerts, class plays, the school play, athletics, Spanish in seventh and eighth, and significant yearly technology updates are all funded by this fundraiser.
The Panther Pentathlon Pledge Packet will be sent home with the kids in early September. Then, throughout the first month of the school year, we ask kids and families to collect donation to support these five programs. As this is our “homegrown” fundraiser, we have incredibly low overhead with more than 95% of the money donated going directly to the school. All of the kids’ fundraising efforts to support the school culminate with the celebration even on the morning of October 6.
Harvest Carnival–October 20
The Harvest Carnival is an annual PTO event with cotton candy, games, and lots of family fun. A sign-up genius will be sent out soon to solicit volunteers for this event.
There will be a Spaghetti Feed the night of the Carnival. This is a great way to get dinner at the event and all profits go to the 8th grade class End of Year Big Event!
