 Dear Jacoby Creek Families,

Our Jacoby Creek School community is truly awesome! Thank you so much to all of the families who supported our Panther Pentathlon, Harvest Carnival, and the celebration of Jacoby Creek School’s 60th Anniversary.  These school wide events were AMAZING successes.  It is truly a joy to be part of such an amazing school community. Thank you so much to each and every student and family member who has contributed to our wonderful first trimester.

Conference week is coming up the week of November 13-17.  School is dismissed at 1:15 the week of conferences, and there are no After School Enrichment classes.  The Activity Center will be open. I want to encourage every family to attend their child’s conference. It is so important to have the face to face time with your child’s teacher!

Our school’s lost and found is really quite a challenge.  Please remember to write your child’s name in all sweaters and jackets.  The clothes will be hung out on the last Friday of each month in hope that they can be returned to their owners.  They will be donated at the end of each month.  Also, I have created a JCS SPIRIT GEAR EXCHANGE BOX.  If you have spirit gear that your students have grown out of, please feel free to add them to the box.  If your child would like one from the box, please feel free to take one!

I wanted to remind families that our jcsk8.org website is a great source of information about all things school related. You will find school calendars, lunch menus, and important announcements. Be sure to check it out! Also, the voicemail attached to the (707) 822-4896 phone number does not function correctly. Please use the (707) 633-9090 number to leave non-urgent messages or to leave messages outside of the office hours. The office is open from 8:00-4:30 daily.

Sincerely,

Melanie Nannizzi

Attendance

So far our school attendance rate is looking healthy! Thank you so much for making regular school attendance a priority.

Remember, while it is important to keep students home when they are ill, please be sure to make regular attendance a priority in other situations. When students are absent from school, they miss important educational opportunities that are difficult to replicate. In addition, our school loses funding each day that your child misses school. Absences have great impact on our school’s budget.

Please keep in mind that independent study contracts are available for planned absences of five or more days.  Independent study contracts provide continuity with your child’s education and allow the school to continue to receive funding.

THANK YOU FOR MAKING REGULAR SCHOOL ATTENDANCE A PRIORITY!

Campus Safety

Transportation Safety at Jacoby Creek School–HELP US STAY SAFE!

The Jacoby Creek School District encourages our families to carpool, walk, ride bikes, or use the school bus as much as possible in order to minimize traffic and environmental impact.  We are also fortunate to have well-marked bike paths and sidewalks approaching the school from both directions.

If you find that you must drive your child to/from school, we ask that you help us by following these guidelines:

The gym parking lot is for staff and school buses only.  Visibility is restricted and we do not want children in that area except when dropped off/picked up by the bus.  Please do not park in any space marked “Staff.”

The front of the school is the drop-off/pick up area.  There are 2 lanes: one next to the curb ON THE RIGHT, and one close to the parked cars ON THE LEFT.  Students may only be dropped off or picked up from the curb lane.  We can’t have students trying to get to cars in the left lane by the parked cars – they might get hit.  This lane is for through traffic and for those leaving after picking up/dropping off their student only.

If you park and bring your child onto campus, please remember to use the crosswalks. Please do not park across the street and run yourself and your child(ren) across the road.  This is very dangerous and sets a bad example.

Do not back up your vehicle in the traffic line.  Our students are not very visible around vehicles and we want to avoid accidents.  Leave enough room between your car and others so you won’t need to back up.

Lastly, all students need to wear helmets when biking, scooting, or skating to and from school.  If a student comes to school without a helmet, we will keep the bike or scooter here for a parent to pick up.

HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE: (December 9th)

Thank you to Diana Freeman and Karly Alvarez for volunteering to organize the 2017 Holiday Boutique!  Mark your calendars and plan to attend this treasured JCS community event.

Vendor space is still available for JCS students and any interested artists. Please, if you, your student, or any artists you know are interested, get your vendor application turned in soon (available from the school office, or by emailing jcspantherpress@gmail.com). There will be many JCS students, local artists and high school students selling a wide variety of crafts and handmade goods, plus our traditional Children’s Shop. This event is a chance for the kids to earn a little money, learn to interact with potential buyers, make a plan, manage their time, and track their expenses and profits.

Cookies:  Can you help by baking a batch or two of your best homemade cookies? These are sold at the boutique, with proceeds supporting our JCS PTO. Pretty cookies, basic cookies, unique cookies, seasonal cookies… We will send out a reminder closer to the event.

Sports Schedules & Athletic Passes

Families can purchase a ‘Bay League Season Pass’ at home games or at the JCS school office. This pass is just $30, will get you into all JCS sporting events, excluding tournaments, and proceeds benefit our athletics program. Please purchase your pass from Jacoby Creek School in order for our athletic program to receive the money.

The full schedules of current sports teams and the following sports can always be seen at the Sports Board mounted at the front of the school and on the JCS website at http://www.humboldt.k12.ca.us/jacobycreekschool/sports.php  Come on out to one of these events and support our JCS athletes!
